Songs and videos for Severn Church, Bristol
When you absolutely, positively, have to get a message stuck in someone’s head, there’s nothing better than a jingle, people discovered years ago.
The trouble is, getting jingles made is hard and expensive, unless you want them to be awful and remembered for the wrong reasons.
Now, I recognise that there’s a lot of sensitivity in creative industries about the use of AI – some of my best friends are jingle makers, after all. I wouldn’t want them to starve.
But on the other hand, with no budget and very little time, there was no real prospect of turning every message I’d like shared musically as actual sung-to-order pieces until Suno came along.
I love it. I don’t trust it to write lyrics (so I always do them myself) but I do love the process of getting its ideas flowing, then picking and editing the best ones.
Here are some examples of songs that carried vital messages and turned out to be surprise hits, locally at least. (Annoyingly, as fun as it was for these earworms to stick in my head, they got in the way of me doing my actual job of finding tunes I can play on the radio because they competed for space in my brain too well.)
The accompanying videos aren’t meant to do anything except make the vital points about moving across town as clear as possible to the people who might only see them once, so sorry they’re rather repetitive…
